THE MILANO CORTINA 2026 ORGANISING COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES
THAT
IT HAS DECIDED TO REMOVE ACTOR MASSIMO BOLDI FROM THE LIST OF TORCHBEARERS FOR
THE OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY
This decision follows an interview published today in a
national newspaper, in which opinions were expressed that were deemed
incompatible with Olympic values and with the principles guiding the work of
the Organising Committee.
Carrying the Olympic Flame is both a privilege and a
responsibility, and requires that selected individuals embody and promote the
values of respect, unity and inclusion, which are the foundations of the
Olympic Movement and essential conditions for participation in the Torch Relay.
Torchbearers may be nominated by the various organisations
that contribute to the delivery of the Olympic Torch Relay, including
Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, host cities, Olympic project sponsors, Regional
CONI Committees, local authorities and the International Olympic Committee.
Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 will continue to
organise an Olympic Torch Relay that fully reflects these principles and
celebrates the unifying power of sport, in full respect of the Olympic spirit.
FONDAZIONE MILANO CORTINA 2026
The objective of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, in agreement with the International Olympic
Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Italian National Olympic
Committee (CONI), the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), Città di Milano and Cortina d’Ampezzo,
Regione Veneto and Regione Lombardia, Province autonome di Trento and Bolzano, is to plan,
organise, finance and implement the Milano Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2026.
Established on 9 December 2019, Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 is led by
President Giovanni
Malagò and CEO Andrea Varnier.
