No
spectators at all stages of the Four Hills Tournament
The 70th Four Hills
Tournament will now take place completely without spectators. On Thursday, the
Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) and the local organising committees in Innsbruck
and Bischofshofen decided to do without fans in the stadiums. "We are
aware of our responsibility and have therefore decided not to allow spectators
at the next Nordic and Alpine World Cup events in Innsbruck, Bischofshofen,
Flachau and Zauchensee. We regret this decision for the fans and athletes, but
we want to support the government in its efforts as best we can," said ÖSV
President Roswitha Stadlober.
Because of the spread of the coronavirus variant Omikron, the Austrian federal
government had recently tightened the legal requirements once again. The
organisers in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen had recently hoped for a limited
crowd of up to 4,000 fans.
Oberstdorf
and Garmisch-Partenkirchen take back tickets
The
German competitions of the 70th Four Hills Tournament will take place without
spectators, following the current tightening of the Bavarian Infection
Protection Ordinance on Friday, 3 December. The organising committees in
Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are taking back tickets with immediate
effect and refunding the full purchase price (excluding postage costs).
"Unfortunately,
the new regulation of the Bavarian state government leaves us no room for
manoeuvre. That's a pity, because we had specially developed an excellent
protection concept. But clearly: the jumps of the Four Hills Tournament
definitely count as a professional sport and these must take place without
spectators from now on," says Florian Stern, Managing Director of Skiclub
Oberstdorf Veranstaltungs GmbH and General Secretary at the opening event in
Oberstdorf.
Should
the restrictions in Bavaria ease again in the next three weeks, the organisers
want to react quickly. "We are not expecting that at the moment. But of
course, we are very flexible and could start ticket sales again within a few
hours. If necessary, even shortly before Christmas," explains Michael
Maurer, chairman of the Partenkirchen Ski Club and head of the organising
committee for New Year's ski jumping.
Whether
ski jumping fans will also have to stay outside at the Austrian competitions in
Innsbruck and Bischofshofen will be decided when the government decides on the
next regulations in Austria.
